South Korea and the UN, partners in peace for 70 years
Currently, South Korea and the United Nations are cooperating closely for world peace, under the leadership of the Korean Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The relationship between Korea and the United Nations is a special one, spanning across 70 years of history. In 1945, the United Nations was established as Korea achieved independence in the same year. The special relationship of cooperation began with the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950 as the United Nations dispatched combat troops in its first-ever military action, to assist the government of South Korea. The democracy of Korea was protected through the sacrifice of the United Nations troops. Since the end of the Korean War, South Korea achieved astonishing economic development, to become a major contributor to world peace under the United Nations. South Korea is now active in United Nations peacekeeping operations and youth volunteerism, while the Korean Committee for the UNICEF is one of the most successful worldwide. In recent years, South Korea is now actively designing cooperative projects with the UN for the development of nations suffering under poverty and internal conflict.
The 70 years old relationship between the United Nations and South Korea is filled with stories to tell. This documentary brings these stories to light, through first-hand accounts from those who helped shape history in the special relationship.
