Gujarat by-polls: Modi in aggressive batting mode

India News: Narendra Modi's status as BJP's likely face for the next Lok Sabha elections was cemented further on Wednesday as the party handily trounced Congress in a clutch of by-elections in Gujarat. BJP wrestled four assembly constituencies and two Lok Sabha seats from Congress in the by-elections.
As BJP savoured the victory, indications emerged that the last remnants of resistance to Modi and his likely projection as the party's prime ministerial candidate in the next elections were disappearing. A growing chorus of party voices said Modi could be formally appointed the chief of the party's campaign committee for the next general elections at the upcoming national executive in Goa this weekend.
