Dutch duo Grey Area debut on Soul Heaven with ‘Rhythms of a Funk Machine EP’, a release that truly lives up to its name. It’s funky and eclectic, making reference to a number of different genres but remaining ‘house’ at heart. The three tracks have distinct creative flavours. Opening track ‘Afrodisiac’ kicks up the tempo with some latin-style percussion and intricate instrumental harmonies. ‘Blue Eyed Funk Machine’ is the perfect party track, featuring funky vocal samples and a bouncy forward-moving bassline. ‘Lose My Cool’ has a more relaxed ambient vibe, but its brass motifs and guitar still keep it upbeat and giving it that funk edge. It’s irresistibly smooth and effortlessly cool. It rounds off a quirky, grooving EP from the charming and inventive Grey Area.
