Greta Thunberg on Igniting a Global Environmental Movement

In August 2018, then 15-year-old Greta Thunberg skipped class to protest in front of the Swedish parliament to raise awareness about climate change, holding a sign that read "Skolstrejk för Klimatet." Since then, she's continued to strike on Fridays (which became Global Climate Strikes), she's delivered blunt speeches on the world stage, and she's ignited a global youth-led movement to fight climate change.
 
Her protest began with a tweet, which translates to, “We children usually don't do as you tell us to do, we do as you do. And if you adults don't care about my future, neither do I. I will school strike for the climate until election day."
 
She went on to get even more notoriety for her appearance and words at the 2018 United Nations Climate Change Conference. She has since gone on to galvanize both young and old climate change activists with her beautifully blunt and adamant views on the crisis. She has also been on the cover of Time Magazine and Norwegian parliament nominated her for a Nobel Peace Prize.
 
In one of her many iconic speeches, Thunberg says, "We have come here to let you know that change is coming, whether you like it or not. The real power belongs to the people."
