Green Eyes - Too much information

I don’t know much about any one thing, but that’s not by mistake.
If I gain more knowledge it becomes too much to take.

It scratches at my flesh, I become uncomfortable in my own skin.
I have to back away from it to let the scab begin.

As the wound heals over I can move along once more,
But when I least expect it, I learn facts I can’t ignore.

I feel the tears behind my eyes, my fragile smile is gone,
I was happy in my ignorance although I knew it wrong.

The world is such a big old place in which we are so small
Let me make my difference here, not on some foreign soil.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but please don’t try to change me,
This is a decision I have made to try and make us happy.
