Description
He has just 48 hours to strike a deal on his country’s debt crisis.
After Thursday’s (June 25) negotiations ended without agreement, he is meeting today with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande.
Eurozone finance ministers are scheduled to meet again on Saturday (June 27) – their fifth meeting in 10 days.
“Saturday’s meeting is crucial because we are on the eve of default,” Hollande told reporters on Friday morning. “On the 30th of June, Greek authorities will have to face demands for payment.”
Patience is running out in Brussels and ministers are expected to present Greece with a “take it or leave it deal.”
Slovak Finance Minister Peter Kažimír said, if a deal can’t be reached this weekend, ministers will instead discuss the technicalities of a default by a member of the single European currency.
