Greek runner repeats ancient feat

Some 2,500 years ago the Battle of Marathon in Greece marked the victory of ancient Athens over the invading Persians.

It was a turning point in history - the outcome ensured the subsequent flowering of ancient Greek culture, the legacy of which is still felt today.

One of the legends of the battle is the story of a messenger who is said to have run a vast distance from the town of Marathon, across ancient Greece.
