Graham Barnett - Space Adventure

This is a poem about out of space,
As wild as a daffodil,
As harsh as the artic face,
As built up as a pile, as long as the river Nile.

Only seen through telescope,
As sealed as an envelope,
But if somebody looks and peeps inside,
I query what they may find.

Hit the start button off we go,
Visiting places we may not known,
Now to Mars off I fly,
To my home planet I bid goodbye.

A sea of red, fire and rock,
This comes to me as quite a shock,
Do I hear a lava splash?
In my space ship, off in a flash.

Now today,
I shall venture past the Milky Way,
Further away I still fly,
Far beyond the human eye.

Is that Orion I see in the sky?
Or an alien space craft passing by,
As I sallied closer to take a look
The whole of my space craft was shook.

As I opened a single eye,
An alien space craft was nigh,
It was close but, but came closer still,
Like a tiger with it’s kill.

Along came a strange horde,
The question was how did they get on board?
They said about the galaxy they roamed,
And apologized, for my journey had been postponed.

To Earth off I go,
The beloved planet that I will always know,
My family greet me, home at last,
My space adventure has been a blast.
