Govt drops 'self-harm' post-Brexit import checks
Description
Jacob Rees-Mogg has said government plans to impose further checks on goods entering the UK from the EU would have been an 'act of self-harm', after ministers dropped the policy.
The Brexit Opportunities Minister said: "It would have increased costs for people, and we are trying to reduce costs … Free trade benefits consumers, it leads to cheaper prices and more choice and so we are helping the British consumer significantly."
