some dream of paradise
can’t wait to get to Heaven
none think Hell is their destiny -
some dream of drifting among the stars
finding a new paradise out there
and justice will rain down on us
our nobility finally revealed
kept locked away so long
and everyone will celebrate
and so they spin their fantasies
unable to face our daily realities
can’t wait
none think it’ll just be another Hell -
we drag our baggage wherever we go
our dried bones rattling
waiting for eternal breath
our souls our land divided
searching for sanctuary
chased by pestilence
entertained by the slaughter of unending wars
from country to country
as cities & mountains crumble into dust
consumed in a whirlwind of fire
from continent to continent
from planet to planet
from galaxy to galaxy
spreading our fear & paranoia
a race of sociopaths
dreaming spreading war & destruction
across the universe
searching for new worlds to conquer -

we are but
civilized neanderthals
crawling out of their caves
mistrusting the light
creatures of habit
& peace is so dull
& paradise is boring
so unleash the machinery of war
let’s plant fields of mushroom clouds
among the black draped stars -

dreaming God dreaming us
His special creation
so we delude ourselves
God's little accident
an unwanted side-effect
in the backwater of the universe
or some half drunk Arch-Angel's experiment
or whirling atomic particles clashing
creating little brainy gnats
lasting barely one breath of Brahma -
