Description

Twitter faces further instability as it refuses to pay Google for services before its contract renewal on June 30th. The $1 billion contract, signed in 2018, allowed Twitter to host some services on Google Cloud servers. Twitter is now hurriedly trying to move services off Google's infrastructure, with some, like anti-spam and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) tool Smyte, at risk of going offline. Already unstable, Smyte has shown increased strain since workforce cuts by Elon Musk, and Twitter's overall platform instability has resulted in several core feature outages. The potential non-payment to Google follows a similar pattern, as Twitter was sued last year for failing to pay rent on their headquarters.
