Golden rule

With the Eurozone crisis far from over and the US bracing itself for a new year of economic troubles, finding ways of cutting national debt is a priority for many world leaders. The so-called 'golden rule' principles, set out in a fiscal treaty for most EU countries, oblige governments to restrict spending and balance their budgets.
