The play by Ranko Marinković, Gloria, which „conjures life as an oscillation between dogma and individual freedom,” is at first sight made up of external elements of a plot. But, it is internally built into vaults and floors of its real meanings that are, as literary theorists would say, „new for our literature according to the manner of performance as well as the volume of the theme.” These evaluations of Marinković’s play date from the 1960s when „our” meant something else and when the „volume of the theme” was different. Thus, beside the basic line, this „miracle in six images” possesses for us today a series of hidden possibilities of interpretation including the one concerning the manner in which the young priest instead of trying to consolidate faith and love toward God, discovers worldly love.
