3D printing is constructed by three “Bio-inks” that are placed down by separate printer heads. The first ink has Extracellular Matrix. This is complicated mix of water, proteins and carbohydrates that link individual cells together to form tissue. In a field test the Harvard team noticed that when they injected human endothelial cells into the vascular network the cells regenerated the blood vessel lining. 3D printing live tissue is a great step for medical science. Just last year 3D printing replaced 75% of a patience skull!

Research headed by Thomas Boland, Ph.D., director of biomedical engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso and co-founder of TeVido Biodevices, is leading to the development of 3-D printed breast implants for cancer patients who have undergone lumpectomies.
