GITTENS OPENS SEASON

Long Jumper Tyra Gittens opened her season over the weekend competing at the Martin Luthor King Junior Invitational in Albuquerque.

Gittens finished second in the long jump with a distance of 6.28 meters.

It's still some distance off her personal best of 6.96 meters.

The event was won by Ackelia Smith whose best effort was 6.73 meters.

Gittens, who also has aspirations of being part of the national 4x100 women's team also took part in the women's 60 meter race where she placed 6th in a time of 7.41 seconds.
