Seven-year-old Makayla McEvoy - miraculously still alive after a vicious wild kangaroo attack.
The young aspiring vet was playing near a pack of kangaroos while on holiday with her family in Wyangala Dam, a popular camping location, when one of the kangaroos charged her.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) VICTIM OF KANGAROO ATTACK, MAKAYLA MCEVOY, SAYING:
"Very, very scared. I thought I was going to die. All I could see was grey, grey, grey."
(SOUNDBITE) (English) MAKAYLA'S MOTHER, EMMA MCGOVERN, SAYING:
"And it just jumped on her back and knocked her to the ground and started. It was just jumping up and jumping up on top of her and scratching her."
Her step father Mitch rushed to save her.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) VICTIM MAKAYLA'S STEP FATHER, MITCH MCGOVERN, SAYING:
"As I jumped over the top of Makayla to get rid of the kangaroo, all I could see was she was laying, sort of, face down on the ground. Her shirt was all ripped, and her back was cut. There was no noise, I thought the worst."
(SOUNDBITE) (English) VICTIM MAKAYLA'S MOTHER, EMMA MCGOVERN, SAYING:
"Honestly, I thought she was dead. She didn't make any noise. She didn't scream for help."
Makayla was rushed to hospital where her wounds were treated.
Despite the ordeal, she is still determined to become a veterinary surgeon one day.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) VICTIM OF KANGAROO ATTACK, MAKAYLA MCEVOY, SAYING:
"Because I love animals."
Park officials say they will erect signs to warn people about kangaroo attacks.
