Description

Liposuction and tummy tucks are very common procedures that are performed to enhance the belly and different parts of the body. After surgery, it is very important to wear a girdle. Girdles are essential for a good result. Anytime that you have surgery, there is going to be swelling and fluid accumulation, among other things. Girdles provide compression which helps the body get rid of the fluid that has been accumulated, due to the surgical trauma that occurs. When a girdle is placed, it provides pressure of the surgical field, which in essence increases the interstitial fluid pressure allowing fluid to move into the vessels and lymphatic system, which results in resolution of the swelling and expedites the recovery. Other things that are important to girdle use is to provide even results. When liposuction is performed, your body is going to feel lumpy, bumpy, and uneven. By providing constant even compression around all the different anatomical areas where surgery was performed, a girdle will essentially minimize the risks of having liposuction deformities and provide a more even area. In addition, girdles also help contour the body, particularly on the waist area because some of this girdle has an anatomical shape where they provide compression in certain areas to accentuate, for example your waist. Using girdles after surgery is important, and typically you are going to need to wear it for three to four months. Sometimes patients require a more prolonged use girdle. If you do not use girdles, your results are not going to be as good as somebody who uses a girdle. Postsurgical girdles are an essential component to have a better outcome after surgery.
