Come for Malaysia's largest literary festival, but stay for the sights and sounds of Penang's capital city and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Returning for its seventh edition, the George Town Literary Festival 2017 takes on “Monsters & (Im)Mortals” in a three-day event from November 24 to 26.

This year’s theme recalls a time of gods and humans, myths and legends, good and evil and ultimately the monster within men, set against a world ruled by demagogues.

Featuring book launches, panel discussions, readings, spoken word performances, dance and film screenings, the three-day festival boasts a line-up of acclaimed local and international writers and poets.

From historical buildings to places of worship and cafes to street hawkers, The Malaysian Insight takes you on a walkabout around George Town to explore just what makes Penang so charming.
