Germany increases security at its airports and train stations, fearing a possible attack by Islamist militants. Here's more.

Germany says it has strong evidence Islamist militants are planning attacks in the next two weeks.

The government has increased security at potential targets -- including train stations and airports.

At Berlin's main train station, police with body armor and automatic weapons stand on alert -- while trained dogs have been called in to sniff out explosives.

Germany Interior Minister advised travelers to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

[Thomas De Maiziere, German Interior Minister]:
"Two weeks ago I already called for extra vigilance. It is general advice which can and must be carried out. It could as much be vigilance in the case of unattended luggage as strange behavior in the context of possible attack scenarios which one could imagine."

One passenger said he wasn't worried, but he's noticed the security measures.

[Mr. Seel, Passerby]:
"I am not but I can see that today there are of course a significant increase in police officers here with protective vests and guns. Of course you do start to consider it when you see so many police officers. I am not scared but I am definitely thinking about it."

Officials said the information of the threat emerged following a spate of parcel bombs sent from Yemen to the U.S. at the end of October.

Germany has long viewed itself as a potential target because it has 4,590 military personnel stationed in Afghanistan -- the third largest contingent of the international force fighting the Taliban-led insurgency.
