In this futuristic thriller, everyone’s lives are determined by eugenics and individuals whose births have been genetically programmed dominate society. Ethan Hawke is Vincent Freeman, a young “in-valid”. That’s what individuals born from natural and non-scientifically controlled relations are called. To make his dream a reality, he buys himself an identity from a D.N.A. trafficker and passes for Jerome (Jude Law), a paralyzed “valid”. By changing his appearance and concealing his imperfections, Vincent gains access to Gattaca and begins an affair with his gorgeous colleague Irene (Uma Thurman). He’s just about the leave to explore outer space when the director of the space agency is murdered. The ensuing investigation threatens to reveal his true identity.
