Gary Witt - Hope

On this subject,
No one speaks
With any authority:
No one can tell you
Where to find hope;
But try if you can, to
Move through despair.
Do not fight or deny it,
For one cannot swim
By fighting the water.
Do not carry it with you,
It is immense and useless.
Neither cherish nor curse it
For it feels nothing in return.
And though it may cover you,
Do not let it in;
For that is the way it kills.
It does not fly, as hope does.
So move through it if you can.
Hope, if it still exists,
Might stay for now
On the other side of despair,
But not here, not on this side.
Look elsewhere,
Hope is not here.
