Yesterday, I dreamed of high-heeled shoes,

Stumbling in my first pair of “big girl shoes”
As ankles rolled over the unaccustomed height.
Platform sandals and missing the bottom stair.
Wore them again after the swelling and pain went away.

Striding with the sharp staccato sounds of my heels dancing
ahead of me and echoing off the walls of the hallway.
Walling into an office of astonished faces within,
Who thought a much heavier person was without.

Remembering all the pumps, I once owned,
Watching the height of the heels dwindle over time
Wearing flats, with a walker, works quite well,
But I’d rather wear my high-heeled shoes.

Walking barefoot isn’t bad…
