Description

Saif al-Islam, a son of deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, appears briefly before a court in the town of Zintan.

He's been in militia custody there since his capture in November 2011.

He's facing trial on charges of risking national security by giving sensitive information to a lawyer for the International Criminal Court.

Saif al-Islam, seen here in file footage, is at the centre of a legal tug of war between the ICC and Libya.

The man once presumed to be Gaddafi's heir is wanted by the ICC for alleged war crimes.

Libya says it wants to try him itself but has yet to indict him on such charges.

The ICC has no power to act unless national legal systems are unable or unwilling to do so.

In the meantime Saif al-Islam remains in Zintan.

His current hearing has been adjourned to September for his defence team to complete its case.
