Gabrielle Shutt - My Kindred

In smoky repose, I listen to the words of an unknown songsmith. They float through the stagnent night air like a silk kite on a summer day. Brilliantly colored and expertly crafted they meet my ear and I settle in for a long night of contemplation.

When the sun rises what will become of us? When we have forgotten the melodies and lose the words where will we be? Back at the beginning I guess, the same as we were but with a changed mind. And an altered heart. Sitting as the sun breaks through the old oak trees, trying to figure out where the night has gone while rifling back through hours of songs sung, words spoken, and thoughts shared. And trying to postpone the inevitable goodbye.
