Description

"Shift a trillion dollars of fossil fuel subsidies to renewable energy and sustainable development."

That's the message from activists unfurling a huge one trillion dollar bill in Los Cabos, Mexico, where the G20 summit's taking place.

Over 750,000 people have signed a petition calling on countries to drop fossil fuel subsides.

Maria Paz Cambronero is from the Avaaz movement.

SOUNDBITE: MARIA PAZ CAMBRONERO, CO-ORDINATOR OF BILL CAMPAIGN FOR THE AVAAZ MOVEMENT, SAYING (Spanish):

"This is an enormous trillion dollar bill, that is covered in petroleum, represents the trillion dollars we give annually, on a global level, in public subsidies to millionaire companies so that that they can keep producing energy that contaminates the earth and is speeding up global warming."

Their petition was delivered to G20 policy makers from the leading industrialised and developing economies.

The euro zone debt crisis and global economic slowdown are dominating the two-day gathering.
