FTC Investigating Twitter Over Privacy, Security Concerns
Description
The Federal Trade Commission has demanded that Twitter ($TWTR@US) turn over internal communications over concerns that layoffs could compromise the company’s ability to protect users’ privacy and security. The FTC has issued 12 letters to the social media company since CEO Elon Musk took ownership of the company on October 27th. The letters ask Twitter to quantify the layoffs and resignations; details of executives overseeing privacy and security issues; the identities of journalists who were given access to company records; and internal communications regarding Musk. Twitter’s staff was reduced from 8,000 workers to nearly 2,000, cutting 75 percent, raising questions about its ability to comply with security practices.
