French soldier stabbed on patrol
Description
French police are hunting for a man suspected of stabbing a soldier on patrol in this neighbourhood west of Paris.
The 23-year-old soldier was stabbed in the neck from behind on Saturday by an unknown assailant who fled the scene.
The soldier lost a considerable amount of blood but the interior ministry said his injuries are not life threatening.
Police say surveillance footage shows the attacker is a tall, bearded man about 35 years old wearing a white, Arab-style tunic.
Although officers did not speculate on a possible motive for the attack, police union spokesman Christophe Crepin, said the stabbing was similar to the killing of a British soldier last week by men apparently seeking revenge for violence against Muslims.
