Grade 5 protracted joblessness: keep the pressure on Sen. Baucus and Gov. Crist to expand benefits - Rochester Joblessness
There are a number of headlines regarding prolonged joblessness that demonstrate how hard it's to be long term jobless and how hard it's to get the message through to people who make law:
Here is an article from the Miami Herald that I am sure many of you are able to relate to:
Ending of unemployment checks will mean no income for many
I am aware I've read the letters and seen opinions of people who are sufferning fiscal hardships due to Congress not acting immediately or responsibly for the long term jobless.
Why does Congress, and particularly the enjoys fo Sen. Max Baucus (see the letter after in this post that appears to suggest that Se. Baucus is conscious that 99 weeks aren't enough), blow off the growing quantities of jobless that will no longer be capable to cover food and shelter? Perhaps they're saving that cash for the following bank bailout of executive compensation requirements? Keep writing Se. Baucus to make sure you're being heard.
I am happy to find that Donnalee's tireless attempts for joblessness justice are getting the interest of the principal stream media!
Sadly, this narrative also has the outside of circumstance views of those that say unemployment benefits can motivate some to remain jobless while talking about people who have high incomes. Why not make the most week extension contain a needs based evaluation if this is true? Perhaps the wealthy should not get more than the present maximum, but there are millions accumulating unemployment benefits that are not affluent.
Oh, and Mr. Morici, why do state and national unemployment laws encourage many to continue their schooling? Why comprise those that are continuing their schooling in your statement? It is misleading and it diesn't address those that are in desperate fiscal straits.
