Foreigners evacuated amid Libya violence

Foreign nationals flood Tripoli's Mitiga airport Sunday as they scramble to leave the country.

They have been told to evacuate Libya due to ongoing violence there.

One airport security worker says it's been a busy day.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) MEMBER OF AIRPORT SECURITY, SALAH QADRAH, SAYING:

"This crisis has caused security confusion; a large group of foreigners has left. Most of the embassies here left through this airport."

Over the past two weeks, Libya has descended into its deadliest violence since the 2011 war that ousted Muammar Gaddafi.

The U.S., the United Nations and Turkey have all pulled their diplomats out of the country.

The British embassy says its convoy was attacked as it made its way to the Tunisian border -- no one was injured.

On Sunday, France told all French citizens to leave.

That same day, at least 36 people were killed in Benghazi after clashes between Libyan Special Forces and Islamist militants.
