Global food prices are 25 percent higher than pre-pandemic levels, reaching multidecade highs according to the United Nations Food Price Index. Globalized food trade has made it easy for food producers to source ingredients from other countries. Disruptions in manufacturing and transportation caused by the pandemic, coupled with the Russia-Ukraine war’s impact on energy and grain prices, have caused a ripple effect in food prices in other countries.
