Flying Lemming - Conversation Between Me And Another Poet - A Rant

Other poet:
I have this new verse
I’d like to converse
I need not rehearse a moments time

Me:
But it doesn’t rhyme

Other poet:
It shows my true self
My bare lack of wealth
Emotions by stealth just divine

Me:
But it doesn’t rhyme

Other poet:
It’s symbolic as a whole
My minds lost control
I speak from my soul and my mind

Me:
But it doesn’t rhyme

Other poet:
It’s free flowing thought
So hard to be caught
And much often sought by all kind

Me:
But it doesn’t rhyme

Other poet:
The tempo reflects
Where my heart will go next
The pause genuflects 'fore each line

Me:
BUT IT DOESN’T RHYME!

You say you're a poet, that just makes me laugh
That’s not a poem, that’s just a paragraph
The art of just saying what's inside your head
Is the art every drunk has when he can’t find his legs
Hit a piano with hammer and you'll find you need skill
To make the notes flow and not make others ill
It's as true with words they need to fit right
Linking sounds together can take all night
But when it's done properly it will make you proud
And be something that anyone can safely read aloud
Without stumbling or wondering just which line goes with which
Or if this bit is a pause or that bit is a twitch
It may make you feel clever to be dramatic or severe
But a lack of rhyme makes poetry very hard on the ear
