STORY: U.S. actor John Travolta was in Santiago on Monday (March 26) to promote new flights between Australia and Chile for the Australian airline Qantas.
Local website el.milenio.com reported that Travolta, himself a pilot and plane enthusiast, piloted a Boeing 707 into Chile on Saturday. They added he stayed at a winery outside Santiago while filming a commercial for Qantas.
At a news conference, the star of 'Saturday Night Fever' talked about new flights that will link Sydney and Santiago.
"I'm very, very proud to be part of this inaugural flight today, marrying these two wonderful countries, and it's my job as ambassador at large for Qantas to celebrate with you this wonderful moment," he said.
The inaugural flight, a full Boeing 747-700 touched down in Santiago with a full load of 360 passengers.
Qantas used to enter the southern cone through Buenos Aires, but will now enter through Chile because of a deal with Chilean airline LAN.
