Flugtag flying machines make a splash

Red Bull Flugtag held its annual flight competition in Long Beach, California on Monday.

Thirty five teams attempted to fly off the flight deck with their homemade, human-powered flying machines.

Though most crafts immediately splashed into the water, spectators applauded the creativity of the craft as flying tacos, winnebagos with wings, prehistoric pterodactyls, and even Snoopy appeared in the competition.

An all-female team managed to fly their human powered creation 98 feet off a ramp to win the competition.

For their winning effort the team earned a trip to Arizona to take part in an air race competition.

Flugtag rewards contestants for the creativeness of their homemade 'flying' machine as well as their showmanship in addition to the distance they travel after launching their craft off a 30-foot high ramp into water.
