“First Shift” is basically what happens when a rookie partner gets thrown into NYC policing and nobody gets to pretend it’s glamorous. A New York cop and Angela, his new partner, spend the day doing the job in the most “dangerous but routine” way possible. Not every scene is a shootout. A lot of it is the grind around the shootout. Waiting. Responding. Handling people. Making calls that can’t be undone.

The movie’s best trick is its plainness. It doesn’t sell you hero fantasies. It treats the whole shift like work, because that’s what it is. You feel the pressure of the next problem before it even arrives. And sure, at 4.3 on IMDb, it’s not exactly trying to be everyone’s favorite. But if you like your cop stories grounded and a little brutally mundane, this one will hit.

Ein New Yorker Polizist und seine neue Partnerin Angela starten ihren Dienst nicht mit Heldensound, sondern mit diesen kleinen, nervigen Problemen, die irgendwann kippen. Der Tag ist voller Routine. Bis „Routine“ in diesem Job halt heißt: ständig aufpassen, schnell entscheiden, und immer so tun, als wäre der nächste Einsatz nur ein weiterer Fall auf der Liste.

Was das Ganze sehenswert macht? Es wirkt wie ein echter Arbeitstag. Nicht wie ein Wochenende mit Action-Punkten. Der Film bleibt nah dran, zeigt das improvisierte Chaos und lässt dabei auch genug Luft für die anstrengende Realität zwischen Funk, Straßenstress und dem Gefühl, dass man hier nie wirklich durchatmet. 4.3 auf IMDb sagt schon viel. Für Leute, die Cops im Alltag sehen wollen, nicht im Poster-Modus.
