Finding a Missing Child in 48 Hours
21,591 children went missing in Korea in 2014. Among them, 490 still haven't been found. Policies are now focusing on the first 48 hours after a child's disappearance, which are critical to their return. There is the pre-registration of children's fingerprints, face and the particulars of their parents/guardians. The service kit for finding missing children includes a manual for parents to follow when a child goes missing, and helps them produce flyers and banners. For longer term cases, image morphing programs are being developed to simulate the child's current facial features. As we begin May, the month of the family in Korea, we look into policies for finding missing children and ask what more can be done to prevent children from being separated from their families.
