Fears for Haiti as Sandy causes extensive damage
Description
Almost a week after Hurricane Sandy swept past Haiti and areas of the country still face devastating floods.
Fifty-two people died in the storm which caused widespread damage to crops and infrastructure.
Here in Thomazeau village, homes and roads sit in water as the full extent of the devastation begins to emerge.
With livelihood swept away, Haitians say they're struggling to cope.
SOUNDBITE: RESIDENT CARLINE MARC SAYING (Creole):
"Everything we had in the houses are all gone. The only documents we were able to save were our birth certificates and the children's. The entire neighbourhood is filled with water and we have to sleep in our neighbours' homes. The river has taken away everything, even our pigs, everything. Right now, we cannot find food to eat."
Filmed on Sunday (October 28), this footage shows flood damage in southern Haiti.
The country was already trying to recover from a tropical storm before the latest severe weather hit.
But now aid agencies fear food shortages and the spread of water-borne disease.
They say the deadliest effects of Hurricane Sandy are still yet to come.
