Failed US raid base attacked

This airbase used by the U.S. in Yemen for an unsuccessful hostage rescue mission was the target of a militant rocket attack in its wake.

These are the launchers said to have been used to fire the weapons at the base in Lajh province.

In the village of Al-Matla the physical signs of the failed U.S. raid are all too clear.

This is the house where the American and South African hostages were held.

Both were shot dead by their kidnappers during the U.S. assault.

The failed mission has also angered local villagers, including this man who says his five sons were killed.

(SOUNDBITE)(Arabic) MUBARK AL-HARID SAYING:

"We demand state retribution for those who came to kill our sheikhs, our sons and children, suddenly without informing us."

At least 11 people including militants were killed in Saturday's failed rescue attempt.
