Description
As tensions escalate across West Asia, Gulf Cooperation Council nations possess significant military capabilities to respond to Iranian attacks. According to a military analysis, Iran has launched thousands of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman over 16 days. Despite having capable militaries, these countries have not responded yet, possibly due to US pressure. Key weapon systems available for potential retaliation include the Storm Shadow cruise missile in the inventories of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar, with a range of 550 kilometres. Bahrain possesses the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) ballistic missile with a 350-kilometre range. Saudi Arabia operates the Chinese Wing Loong UCAV drone with 30-hour endurance and the Chinese-made Dong Feng 21 ballistic missile with over 2,500-kilometre range, making it the only GCC country with such long-range ballistic capability. These systems could target Iranian infrastructure if these nations decide to retaliate.
