Evelyn Macdonald - Reflections

As I gaze in the mirror, what do I see
A face that's familiar stares back out at me
A face that I've known for many-a-year
A face that's a friend and no-one I fear
A face that has weathered most life's ups and downs
A face that is sometimes creased with a frown
A face on the whole that is happy and glad
A face I can say to myself's 'not-to-bad'

It's a face that I like and am comfortable with
To see someone else would just be a myth
As I gaze in the mirror, I resemble another
On looking at me, I now see my mother
The comfort this brings makes everything right
The face in the mirror, a welcoming sight
The face in the mirror now echoes the past
That time is too fleeting and ever too fast
As I gaze in the mirror of life as I'm prone
I see me and my mother, and am never alone.
