To many people's surprise, the eurozone survived 2012, somewhat bruised and battered, but intact.
Now it seems Europe is bracing itself for yet another tough year. There are predictions of sluggish growth for the UK, and even Germany.
Unemployment is expected to remain high in many countries, and Greece is unlikely to see an end to strikes.
