...than this baby's bulbous belly - -
A send-up of Santa's own semblance to jelly!
It inflates the fabric of her flowered frock.
Nested on noggin are chick-fluff flaxen locks.

Wobbling in her stiff white leather shoes
(sturdy lace-ups a far cry from future Choo's) ,
She wears chocolate milk as a badge of honor.
Sink into her smile - POW - you're a goner!

Flaunting chubby cheeks with infant charm,
She holds Elmo handily by hirsute arm...
Oops! Dropped him on his furry red hind-end,
Laying bare diapered derriere as down she bends.

Sitting in this cookie-cutter style cafe',
I am delighted by every dear display!
She flings up her frock, airing impish impatience,
Brandishing bouncy belly with blithe insouciance.

While her mother chatters on, she waddles near,
Straight to my smile, her intentions unclear.
Then comes the sweetest 'nothing' of my day:
This baby's hand lifts, waving love my way...


(4.19.07 - - and then she bent again to mouth a pebble from the sidewalk...!
I watched from my window seat as she toddled about, never crying once, amusing herself for over twenty minutes. She was barely one year old, not very pretty, but beautiful in her way as only babies can be… Guys: 'Choo's' are shoes by the famous designer Jimmy Choo.)
