The night would be cold
As I had been told
By the bloke upon the telly
That day I'd been sold
Comestibles bold
From my favourite deli

To my lair I retired
And the burner was fired
To produce a warmth so embracing
And the goods did unfold
With a wonder untold
Let me say it was far from debasing

Delights were consumed
And my thoughts were exhumed
From a place I'd forgotten to mention
The fire was high
And so was I
Because of the whisky to relieve my tension

Such simple pleasures
Flames with some good measures
Cause manifold passions to bear
I sat and I thought
Of my lessons well taught
And the reasons why I still do care

The trials of life
And encumberant strife
Fade away as I gaze in the fire
Pen and paper appeal
And my thoughts I reveal
As my burner again does inspire
