Ernestine Northover - Love At First Sight

Shy monster closed his only eye,
and let a tear run down his nose.
He didn’t really like to cry,
but such sadness in him arose.

No one would love him, he was sad,
and dropped his head in deep despair.
Why was he made to look so bad,
it wasn’t right, it wasn’t fair.

He fought hard not to think like this,
he’d smile and put on a brave face.
All he had wanted was just a kiss,
and someone to perhaps, embrace.

Nobody else looked quite like him,
he was the only ugly one.
Now all his hopes were looking dim,
would he find his own ‘honeybun’.

He took himself off, for a walk,
along a verdant country road.
And taking the first wide right fork,
he saw a bright object explode.

This craft was shiny, bright and new,
a flying saucer, landing here.
And as his interest quickly grew,
someone came strolling from its rear.

One eye surveyed his personae,
and smiled as if she knew him well.
She kind of liked this monster guy,
and thought that he was rather swell.

Taking his hand she asked him in
to see her opulent abode.
And kissed him on his hairy chin,
making his joy one hundred fold.

They flew off in the dark of night,
to their own special rendezvous.
It was to be love at first sight,
she’d come, this monster to rescue.
