Why does mankind want so many useless things?
Did it start when we were infants in diapers?
When mom and dad would buy us new toys,
Even if our old ones worked just fine?

Or did it start when we grew older?
Seeing product placement on our favorite shows,
Commercial after commercial all saying:
Buy! Buy! Buy!

Possibly it was the need to feel accepted.
You felt cool if you had the newest gizmo
Before everyone else in your class
But fads quickly fade, and junk piles up.

As you grow older, it can become worse.
You feel like you are succeeding in life
If you have more “stuff” because that means
You can afford to have all these extra “things”.

But before you know it, you grow old.
You realize that you now have all these things
And you won’t be around to use them much longer
And you feel empty.

How can you feel empty if your house is
Overflowing with gadgets and gizmos galore.
You realize that you have been filling your life
And heart with things, instead of divinity.
