Our Clean India

by Chandan Ku. Chowdhury

I was thinking about the theme of the essay 'What can I do for a clean India'. I was confused at first but then when I researched a bit it was clear to me. It's not something that one can forcefully do in just a go. Also it's not only about physical neatness. We must f irst accept it at a mental level. Then we need to allow it to seep into our habits.

Cleanliness can be attained at three levels. First, at a general or physical level. We should maintain a clean and hygienic environment. Put litter into dustbin. Wash everything clean and dry. We should not throw away garbage wherever we like but should put it where it belongs, into the garbage bins. Clean bathroom and kitchen are also a must for remaining disease-free.

Second, at a system level. We must strive to keep our bureaucratic, educational, healthcare, social, media, political, etc systems clean. Don't give or receive bribes. Don't keep black money. We must pledge to keep our systems corruption-free. Documentation should be mandatory for everything. We shouldn't hinder the functioning of any body by unnecessary rallies and protests.

Third, at a personal level. Be clean, keep clean and think clean. Don't indulge in any immoral or unfair activities. You shouldn't be the one molesting a girl or copying in the exam. Do nothing you can't be proud of, nothing you can't share with your MOTHER.

So to conclude, there are millions dying of easily avoidable diseases caused by unclean water and surroundings. So each of us must take a step and add cleanliness into our attitude and habits. It's very important to teach our children about cleanliness the way we teach them walking, talking, etc. By this the dream of clean India will only be a generation away, i.e., four to five years.
