England's 'positive' attitude praised

Former captain Mike Gatting has praised England's mentality in the pursuit of success following the seven-wicket ICC World Twenty20 final win over Australia.

England limited Australia to a modest total with a strong performance in the field and required 148 runs to win at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

They did so at a canter after a century stand between Craig Kieswetter (63) and Kevin Pietersen (47) with captain Paul Collingwood hitting the winning runs with three overs to spare as England won an ICC tournament for the first time.

"Towards the end of the final there, they could have nudged their way through to win by one over," Gatting said.

"But no, they carried on playing in a positive manner and won with three overs to spare against a very, very strong Australia side."

Next for England is the two-Test series with Bangladesh, which begins on May 27 at Lord's.

Consistency has been missing in England's play across all forms of the game for some time and Gatting believes it is something they must develop if they are to remain at the top of the world game, with the Ashes series in Australia beginning at the end of the year.

"That's something we've been missing in all our cricket for the last ten years I suppose," said Gatting.
