empty shell - I Fell

I Live in the alleys
Feed on left-over scraps
Inhaling exhaust fumes
sleep on Cardboard
I wake
With eyes on the ground
Move with intent
Burst from the shadows
To seek out the night
I rise
Full moon lights the sky
So big you can touch it
Almost too bright
For what I have planned
I think
Banks are asleep
Suits have all gone
New shift has started
Life on the street
I want
Johns hiding their faces
Punks staring you down
Girls throwing out looks
June pushing her cart
I see
My friends are all here
Long block after block
I keep going on
I pass by it all
I walk
Sirens in the distance
Construction starting up
Cat-fight in the laneway
An idling lonely cab
I hear
I stop I look I stare
I'm standing in the square
It all comes flooding back
I know that I am home
I arrive
I never need a key
The door is never locked
Elevator broken
I turn towards the stairs
I ascend
My knees are killing me
My teeth are full of rot
I find it hard to breathe
I think my nose is broke
I hurt
I finally reach the top
Kick the roof door open wide
The wind assaults my face
I've got no where to hide
I fear
I'm soaked with evening dew
I walk the steel beam
Looking down upon the world
Living on the edge of love
I fell
