there is a murky flower stem
fibers limp and slick
like a pudgy snake
a grueling weight

roots itself in bone between eyes
winds a tense suctioned
path of skull sockets
down my throat

weaves through brain to vertebrates
thick gray effigy strangles
skin sheds twisted left
to infest and rot

new and stiff battens a fresh boring
a minuscule mammal's mind
to wither or to bloom
a fitting combination

a new species a creator might create
to tense the clearest me
temptation cluttering
sweet-sick saving
