Description

Triple Zero emergency calls in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia were disrupted for several hours in the morning on Friday, May 4.

Police and Fire & Rescue service addressed media about the outages at 10:20 am and livestreamed the broadcast to Facebook.

Deputy Commissioner Mark Walton said the public should still call 000, however, the reliability of the service is still a concern. He advised that people to call 131 444 if they have difficulties getting through.

The ABC</a> reported that the outages were due to a cut Telstra cable between Orange and Bowral, NSW. A lightning strike was suspected to be the cause of the outage.

Fire & Rescue superintendent Norman Buckley advised media that Telstra did not make police and emergency services aware of the disruption and that they were only notified when they started experiencing issues receiving emergency calls. Credit: NSW Police Force via Storyful
