Elizabeth Clement - Regrettable Regrets

You were just asking for this to happen,
With all the pressure you put upon me.
All we had was six more months of high school,
But you couldn’t wait.

So as our children,
Grow inside me.
Your fear,
Grows inside you.

You claim,
Not to be ready for parenthood,
But neither am I.

You tell me to give them away,
But you seem not to understand,
These babies,
Our children,
Are a part of us,
You and me.

So in the end,
I become a single mother of twins.
All because of your pressure.

I should have just said no,
But then I wouldn’t have,
My beautiful twins.

So as the end of my sad tale,
I thank you,
Because even with your selfishness,
You gave me,
Two joys in my life.
